District 68 offers instrumental music experiences to district fourth and fifth graders. The program consists of weekly ½ hour pull-out group lessons that are scheduled on a rotating basis and one weekly forty five minute before-school large ensemble rehearsal at Old Orchard Junior High School . District 68 offers instruction in string instruments: violin, viola, cello and bass and band instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet/cornet, French horn, trombone, baritone and percussion.
Important 2010-2011 Recruitment Dates
Friday, August 27 & Monday, August 30: Instrumental Music teachers demonstrate instruments to District fourth grade classes
Tuesday, August 31 – Friday, September 3 : Students try-out two instrument choices at their schools by classes
Tuesday, September 7 : Beginning Instrumental Music Parent Informational Meeting (see below)
Tuesday, September 14 : Deadline for Instrumental Music Registration Forms to be turned in to home room teachers indicating first and second choice instruments.

Note: Students will receive registration verification letters indicating which instrument and book(s) student should obtain as registration forms are turned in
Friday, September 17 : Students receive lesson schedules indicating on which day their group lessons will occur
Week of September 19 - 23 : Group lessons begin. Students should bring their instruments and materials to school on their designated lesson day.
