Transportation

By bus
Parents may sign up for bus transportation by completing the applicable lines on the student fee bill. Students residing more than 1.5 miles from school are entitled to free bus transportation. The student fee bill will indicate if your child is eligible for ths transportation fee waiver. Contact the district office if you have questions about the transportation fee waiver. Except for new students, the full-year bus fee is charged regardless of when bus service is requested. Bus privileges are dependent upon compliance with rules established for their safe operation.  Any actions by bus riders that endanger the safety of students are reported to the school administration and parents.  Bus privileges may be withdrawn for violation of the rules.  In addition to bus consequences, students may be subject to regular school disciplinary action.

For information about bus service, please call the District Transportation Department at 847-676-9000.

Activity Bus Service
Bus service to selected stops is available to all students participating in after school activities at each school. Bus service for participants in before school activities is available to paid and free-eligible bus riders only. Schools will send information on activity schedules and routes.  Students whose bus privileges have been revoked are not eligible to ride the activity bus.

On Bicycle or On Foot
For safety reasons, only fourth grade and older students are allowed to ride bicycles to or from school. Bicycles are to be parked and locked in the school bike racks.  The District is not responsible for lost or stolen bikes. Bike helmets are required by law.  For elementary students, scooters, rollerblades, and skateboards are not permitted.  Junior high students should refer to their handbook for more detailed information.

Application for State Transportation Grant

Due to a reduction in the State Education budget, funding for the Parent/Guardian State Pupil Transportation reimbursement Program has been eliminated for the 2010-2011 school year. Payments to parents are normally made in December. In the event that funds are restored by the General Assembly, the state will promptly pay the 2010-11 claims that are submitted on or before June 30, 2011.
