Superintendent's Welcome

Dear Community Member:

Welcome to Skokie School District 68!  I am pleased to have you visit us.
Skokie School District 68 has a strong tradition of excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics. I am proud of the diversity of the families that attend our schools, our history of commitment to children, as well as the strong educational foundation that we have provided. Our excellent financial position, largely supported by our strong commercial tax base, allows us to keep our class sizes low, maintain beautiful facilities conducive to teaching and learning, and to attract great teachers and administrators.

District 68 is committed to a long-range strategic plan in order to maximize the academic, social and emotional potential of each student in our schools.

District 68's Strategic Plan outlines the District’s goals:

  • Raising Student Achievement
  • Building Community Partnerships to Serve Our Diverse Student Body
  • Teaching, Learning, and Working with Technology
  • Maintaining Fiscal Responsibility

I am excited about our recent accomplishments as well as the School Board’s, the administration’s, and our teaching staff’s dedication to meeting the needs of all of our children.

Amongst our recent accomplishments, the 2015-16 school year marked the beginning of our one-to-one iPad initiative for students in grades 3-8. Over the course of the last six months, the transformation of teaching and learning has been amazing as teachers and students discover new ways to support learning with the tools and resources that our one-to-one initiative offers.

We have created a communications plan designed to increase our communication efforts so that parents, staff, and the community can be better informed.

In the fall of 2015, the Board of Education and I worked to create a new vision and mission for the school district that will help to guide us through the many decisions that are made at the Board level, the administrative level, and by teachers in our schools.

If you are reading this, you are visiting our new District webpage that was designed with parent and staff input in mind so that we could ensure that we were providing our audience with the information and communication features that are important to you. We have updated our District logo to convey the diversity of our student body with a rich, warm set of colors, and to symbolize the synergy of cultures that we see reflected in our schools.

Recently, the School Board and the Administration recommitted to the philosophy of continuous improvement, as we look at the District’s practices and structures to determine how we can continue to adapt how we do school to best meet the needs of today’s students.
As always, I want to thank all of our staff for their dedication in providing a quality education for our community’s children. Our rich traditions and the quality of our school programs are possible because of their commitment and hard work.

In addition, thank you, parents and guardians, for your support of Skokie School District 68 schools. It takes a team effort to ensure the success of our students. I encourage you to attend as many school activities as possible and to continue helping support our students as they gain valuable experiences that will last a life-time.

As we progress through this school year, we will continue to keep you updated on our progress in making our schools even greater than they already are.  If you have not already signed up to receive our District E-news and would like to receive periodic updates, I encourage you to do so.
