Technology Information
-
Technology is an important part of learning in District 68 and helps enrich classroom experiences every day. Students regularly use district devices and online tools as part of their education. To assist us in keep technology working well and to ensure it is used responsibly, families are asked to review the Technology and Device Use section of the Skokie School District Handbook for Parents and Students.
To help keep students safe online, the district also uses an internet filter that meets the requirements of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). This filter blocks harmful or inappropriate websites and is updated regularly to provide top-level protection while students are online at school and at home on district-issued devices.

What is SOPPA?
SOPPA, or the Student Online Personal Protection Act, is a law that helps protect students' personal information when they use online services and educational tools at school. SOPPA makes sure that schools and companies that handle students' data follow strict rules about how that information is collected, stored, and shared. The goal is to keep students' personal information safe and secure while they learn online.
Under SOPPA, companies are required to establish Data Privacy Agreements (DPAs) with each district they partner with. These agreements specify what data is collected and stored, how it is protected, how the company may use it, and the steps they must take in the event of a data breach.
In the event of a data breach involving student information, details will be posted here.
Under SOPPA, you have the right to:
- Request to inspect and review your child’s covered information, whether it is held by the District, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), or a service provider.
- Request a copy of your child’s covered information, available in either electronic or paper format.
- Request corrections to any factual inaccuracies within your child’s covered information.
