Instructional Technology
Skokie School District 68 provides 1:1 technology and learning for students. Our Instructional Technology Framework is designed to enhance teaching and learning through the intentional use of digital tools. As part of this program, students in grades 2–8 each receive an iPad for daily use, while students in kindergarten and grade 1 have classroom-based iPads to support their early learning. These devices allow students to access engaging resources, collaborate with peers, and extend their learning beyond the classroom walls.
At the heart of our work is a commitment to preparing students for a connected and rapidly changing world. Instructional Technology in District 68 seeks to empower students and teachers to be both thoughtful consumers and creative producers of digital content. Our mission is to cultivate digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, and responsible digital citizenship, while also promoting global awareness and collaboration.
We partner with families to ensure safe and responsible technology use. iPads are filtered for web content, set to disconnect overnight for junior high students, and supported with clear guidelines for care, storage, and repair. Through shared responsibility and ongoing reflection, we create a personalized, safe, and innovative learning environment that fosters discovery, ignites creativity, and supports lifelong learning.
Important iPad Reminders:
- iPads should be brought to school every day fully charged. All students must bring their iPad to school every day.
- iPads are filtered through our web filter while at home, but students still have access to YouTube and some gaming sites.
- We recommend having a location in your home outside of your child's room where the iPad is stored and charged at night.
- Internet connection to the iPad is disabled between 10:30 pm and 6:30 am for OOJH students.
- If your child has a technical issue with the iPad, it should be brought to the LMC/library for assistance/review of the issue.
- If your child loses the iPad or it is stolen, please report this information as soon as possible to the school's office.
Please see our Acceptable Use Policy.
A student is allowed one accidental breakage for which the cost of repair will be covered by the District. Any cost to repair an iPad beyond that is the responsibility of the family. While accidental breakage is rare, it is important to remind your student(s) to not leave the iPad in places where it could sustain accidental breakage.
