Classroom Spotlight: Miss Krissy's Classes

This week we began a new unit on buildings. To increase math skills, we practiced number identification and matching numerals to quantities by building tall buildings with different amounts of blocks. Children also worked with partners to build Lego structures and explored ways to make their buildings stronger and more stable. Our main book, The Three Little Pigs, introduced different building materials. The children enjoyed repeating the story’s phrases and retelling it with our felt board during choice time. In art, we worked together to create the three pigs’ houses and each child made their own house using shapes and textured materials. The houses were later added to dramatic play so children could act out the story with friends. The sensory table featured kinetic sand for building houses, and in the block area children used waffle blocks to create different structures. What a great start to our building unit of study!
