E-Learning Days

Skokie School District 68 is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to use E-Learning Days as an alternative to traditional emergency school closures when weather or other emergency conditions make in-person learning unsafe. The purpose of an E-Learning Day is to maintain continuity of learning while keeping students and staff safe. However, having an approved E-Learning Plan does not mean every emergency closure will become an E-Learning Day. District 68 will determine the most appropriate response based on the specific circumstances of each event.

If an E-Learning Day is called, families will be notified as early as possible through ParentSquare, email, the District and school websites, and local emergency closing notifications. Students will participate in learning from home using their district-issued device and the digital platforms they use regularly in school. Instruction will include a combination of live (synchronous) teacher-led learning and independent (asynchronous) activities. Students are expected to participate in scheduled learning activities, and attendance will be taken.

Families are encouraged to be prepared for the possibility of an E-Learning Day during periods of severe or prolonged winter weather. Because students in grades K–5 no longer take their district-issued devices home each day, the use of an E-Learning Day is only possible when the district has sufficient advance notice to send devices home with students. As a result, traditional emergency school closures may still occur when weather conditions do not allow for advance preparation. If an E-Learning Day is anticipated, the district will communicate instructions and expectations to families in advance.
