Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Murphy's Classes

This week, we continued our ABC Countdown, focusing on a new letter each day through fun and engaging activities!

We had a wonderful time celebrating Letter D with a dance party outside. The children loved moving their bodies to music and were especially excited to join friends from other classes for this special activity.

E was for Exercise, and we practiced simple yoga poses. The children worked on stretching, balance, and following directions while also learning ways to keep their bodies healthy.

For Letter F, we explored fingerpainting! The children used a variety of colors to create their own unique artwork while strengthening their fine motor skills and expressing their creativity.

G was for Green Day, and it was so fun to see everyone dressed in green! We talked about the color green and spotted it throughout our classroom and environment.

Finally, H was for Hopscotch. The children learned how to play this classic game, practicing turn-taking, counting, and coordination while having fun with their friends.

In addition, on Tuesday, our PM class had a special visit from the Skokie Public Library. The children enjoyed an engaging presentation that included storytelling, songs, and interactive activities. It was a wonderful experience that encouraged a love of reading and participation. Our AM class will be rescheduled for a visit at a later date.

Lastly, we released our butterflies today, and the children were so excited to watch them fly off into nature! Throughout the butterfly life cycle experience, the children learned about growth and change by observing the caterpillars transform into butterflies. They enjoyed watching each stage up close and asked many thoughtful questions along the way. Releasing the butterflies gave the children a hands-on opportunity to connect with nature and reflect on all they had learned. It was a memorable experience that encouraged curiosity, observation skills, patience, and appreciation for living things.

We would also like to wish all of our amazing moms, grandmothers, and caregivers a very Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for all the love, support, and care you give each and every day. We hope you have a wonderful and relaxing weekend celebrating with your families.

We are looking forward to continuing our ABC Countdown next week with even more exciting activities and special memories as we finish out the school year together!

ECC Graduation May 21

We are excited to celebrate our students graduating from the ECC and moving on to Kindergarten next school year. Graduation will be held in the Forum at Old Orchard Junior High School on Thursday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m. for students in our morning classes and at 12:45 p.m. for students in our afternoon classes.

We have a large graduating class this school year of about 65 students. Each family will be allowed three seats for graduation to ensure that all students have people from their family in attendance. Infants who will be sitting on the lap of an adult do not count in the three seats per family.

The three parents, guardians, and/or other adults (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) per family who are planning to attend graduation will need to be screened and receive a visitor's badge from our office before entering the building for graduation. We are asking you to do this in advance of graduation in order to make the day of graduation run more smoothly. Parents and guardians of our students graduating this year will receive a message, invitation, and instructions from Ms. Canchola to complete this process in advance using Verkada, the security system we use to screen visitors. Visitors who do this in advance will be able to pick up their badge the day of graduation and walk right into the building. If a relative or friend will also be attending who is not the student’s parent or guardian, we can also screen them in advance. Please respond to Ms. Canchola’s post with the person’s name and email address, and she can also send them a message, invitation, and instructions.

Snack Information

Your child will receive a nutritious snack daily at preschool. Snacks typically include a whole grain, a fresh fruit, and milk. Click on the May Snack Menu to find out more.
